About Us
I became addicted to this game at an early age, growing up and playing at the muni’s in Jackson, Mississippi every chance I got. Unfortunately, practice does not always make perfect, so after twenty years of never breaking 80, I set my clubs aside. A few years ago, a friend coerced me into playing again, so after 25 years of not picking up a club, I started my quest for some decent, inexpensive used golf clubs.
What I found almost shocked me into giving up again before I even started. The shops selling pre-owned clubs around here were pretty disappointing, to say the least. Crowded, cluttered, over-priced, and just plain unfriendly. No wonder golf was starving for new blood. I remember thinking I could do a lot better myself, if the opportunity ever presented itself. Fortunately, my friend was persistent and I kept digging. As much as I dislike having to deal with Facebook, I have to admit their Marketplace ads and garage sale/estates sale posts saved the day. Used clubs were out there, and affordable. You just have to do the time, shake the trees and weed out the rotten apples. Once I knew where to look, I discovered a lot of clubs. I just wished I could have found them all together in one place.
I got my wish. This was going on about the time Covid hit. I wouldn’t wish Covid on anyone, but the silver lining for me was so many folks deciding to get out of the golf business (kinda dumb to me since the golf courses were about the ONLY places still open, but what do I know?) I started finding ads for large lots of clubs and gear, and that little light bulb came on inside my head. Old hobby becomes second career!
None of this would have even been possible without the unwavering support of the second half of Well Played Golf. Lisa has been super supportive from the start. From helping me bring home, literally, truck loads of clubs to giving up the shed & even her craft room to club storage, to spending weekends in the heat for Abandoned Antiques parking lot sales, to finding and helping me set up the new place. She has been my loudest fan & greatest supporter. I am, without a doubt, the luckiest guy around.
Now we’re up and running, but we’re not here to get rich. Our main goal has always been to help new golfers find their way into the game and onto the course. Green fees are too high, the game takes too long, and new clubs cost too much. Sadly, there is nothing I can do about any of that. What I can do is offer an affordable alternative to spending a fortune on new clubs, so everyone can enjoy the richness of this great game.
P.S. I finally broke 80.
